Junior commissioned officer post was offered by Indian Army. and first Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in men's javelin throw.

Chopra won the gold medal on 7 August 2021 with a throw of 87.58 m in his second attempt,  as well as the youngest-ever Indian Olympic gold medalist

On 14th June 2022, Chopra marked his return with a new national record of 89.30m that he set at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland

On 23rd July 2022, Chopra won Silver medal in 2022 World Athletics Championships with a throw of 88.13m
